1.New Design: The most significant changes that is expected in the S25 Ultra is a redesigned esthetics. It has a boxy design with sharp corners, and the model is set to be more refined and sleeklook. The device is expected to have a flatter frame with curved corner offering to be more comfortable grip, premium feel and it aims to maximize the viewing experience with slimmer bezels, offering an immersive display.

2.Enhanced Titanium Build: Samsung has used titanium frames for its flagship device. They have polished titanium finish in a brighter and premium aesthetic. This enhances both the device durability and its visual appeal.

3.Generative AI Integration: The S25 Ultra will launch One UI 7,with integrated AI features. Unlike the S24 Which has received via a software update, the S25 Ultra from the ground up to leverage generative AI capabilities. This promises a more seamless and intuitive AI experience for users.

4.Snapdragon 8 Elite Power: The S25 Ultra is expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset promising exceptional performance and efficiency. This cutting edge processor , coupled with ample RAM and storage, will ensure smoth multitasking and demanding applications.

5.Camera Enhancements: While the S25 Ultra is expected to retain the impressive 200-megapixel main camera and 50MP telephoto lens, a significant upgrade is rumored for the ultra-wide-angle camera. The current 12MP sensor could be replaced with a 50MP sensor, enabling higher quality ultra-wide-angle photos and videos. This upgrade would address a key area where the Ultra model could improve its imaging capabilities.

Potential Compromises in the Standard Galaxy S25 Ultra

While the S25 Ultra is set to receive significant upgrades, rumors suggest that the standard  Galaxy S25 might see some compromises to manage costs. Here are six key features that the S25 is rumored to skip:

  1. Outdated Display Technology: The S25 is expected to stick with an OLED display using the older material set , while competitors like Apple and Google are using the more advanced M14 OLED , offering better efficiency , vibrant colors and higher brightness.

  1. Limited Money Configuration: While the S25 Ultra is rumored to offer up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the standard S25 is expected to start with just 128GB of base storage, which may be insufficient for many users in 2025. The lack of higher storage options for the base model is a significant drawback.

  1. Recycled Primary Camera: The S25 is rumored to use the same 50 megapixel main camera sensor that has been featured in Samsung flagships for the past generations. While the sensor is decent, it lacks the innovation seen in competitors’ offerings.

  1. Unchanged Zoom Camera: The S25 is expected to retain the 10 megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom, while competitors are pushing for higher resolutions and improved zoom in capabilities.

  2. Slower Fast Charging: The S25 is not expected  to support the 45W fast charging found in the Plus and Ultra models, likely sticking to the slower 25W charging.

  3. Lack of UWB: The S25 is rumored to lack ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which is used for features like digital car keys through Samsung Wallet. This omission limits the device's functionality compared to other flagships.

Wireless Charging: A twist with Qi2

The initial rumors has suggested that the galaxy S25 series would be among the first Android devices to adopt the Qi2 wireless charging standard, which introduces magnetic alignment similar to Apple's MagSafe. However, recent leaks suggest a different approach.

According to reliable sources, Samsung plans to implement Qi2 compatibility through specialized cases rather than native support in the devices themselves. This means that users who want to take advantage of Qi2's magnetic alignment and accessory compatibility will need to purchase a separate case.

Furthermore, Samsung is rumored to be increasing the wireless charging speed in the S25 series from 15W to 25W, matching the latest iPhones. However, it's unclear how Samsung is achieving this 25W speed, as the current Qi standard tops out at 15W. It's possible that Samsung is using a proprietary modification of the Qi standard, similar to how other manufacturers have implemented faster wireless charging in their devices.

Conclusion: A Mixed Bag of Upgrades and Compromises

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series presents a complex picture. The S25 Ultra is shaping up to be a powerhouse, with significant upgrades in design, performance, AI capabilities, and camera technology. However, the standard S25 appears to be facing some compromises in key areas such as display, memory, camera, charging, and connectivity.

The decision to implement Qi2 through cases rather than native support is also a notable development. While it allows Samsung to offer faster wireless charging speeds, it adds an extra cost for users who want to take advantage of Qi2's benefits.

Despite the potential compromises in the standard S25, the series is expected to maintain similar pricing to the S24 series. If this holds true, the S25 series could still be a compelling option for consumers, particularly those looking for a premium experience at a relatively accessible price point.

The official announcement of the Galaxy S25 series is expected in late January, with pre-orders starting in mid-January and the official release in early February. As the launch date approaches, more details are likely to emerge, providing a clearer picture of what the S25 series has to offer.
